Senator Oprah Winfrey

Is it crazy to think that the most powerful woman in the world might make a good politician? Well, infamous Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich thought so. “He told ABC that he considered appointing Oprah Winfrey to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.” Blagojevich told "Good Morning America" “that the idea of nominating the talk show host came to him as he explored potential candidates for the job that federal prosecutors allege he tried to sell to the highest bidder. Blagojevich said "she was obviously someone with a much broader bully pulpit than other senators." The governor said he worried that appointing Winfrey might come across as a gimmick and the talk show host was unlikely to accept.” The governor is “accused of abusing his power by scheming to benefit from the appointment to the Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, circumventing hiring laws and defying decisions by the General Assembly.”
